About the Event

After an introduction to the history of the Riccardiana Library by director Roberta Masini, visitors will tour the library’s monumental rooms: the Exhibition Hall, the Director’s Hall (where rare Renaissance song manuscripts will be on view), and the Reading Room with its magnificent frescoed ceiling by Luca Giordano.

As in the times of the Riccardi family—one of the wealthiest and most powerful in Florence—the doors between the Reading Room and the palace’s grand reception space, the Hall of Mirrors, will be opened for a short concert. Inspired by manuscripts 2356 and 2794, the program offers a glimpse into the musical tastes of Europe’s most important courts, including several “hits” that circulated widely across the continent.
